Jebel bani and Chegaga Desert Trek
From Ouarzazate, and after crossing the green ribbon of palm groves of the Oued Draa dotted with towering ksours, we arrive at a powerful rock barrier which once crossed, will open the door of the desert where we find the oases of Oulad Driss and M’Hamid which will disappear quickly giving the way to a trickle of sand that soon swells and swells to form high golden dunes. These occupy the fossil bed of Draa valley, once the largest river in the Sahara: 1200 km from the Atlas to the Atlantic! Thus, in five and a half days we cross the mountain of Bani which gives access to desert dunes of Draa. One dune to another, crossing here and there a herd of camels a nomad camp, we reach the beautiful dunes Dayet Chegaga.

Jebel bani and Chegaga Desert Trek Itinerary
Arrival at the airport. Transfer to the hotel.
Transfer from Ouarzazate. We cross a rocky desert landscape, then will cross the chain of Jabel Saghro by the pass of Tinififte (1660 m.) We reach the village of Aguedz, marking the beginning of the Draa Valley, beautiful palm trees and beautiful villages with traditional architecture. Arrival in Zagora (3 hours drive – 176 km). We leave Zagora 29 km off road to reach our camel team at the starting point of the hike. After an hour of walking, we will win the Pass of Faija (800 m.) then We walk in the gorge till our camp near some palm trees. (3 hours walking). Overnight camping.
Departure from our camp to the southwest. We cross a plateau to get to the tiny oasis of Diabi. Beginning of the valley Amhacer, which offers spectacular desert landscapes. Lunch in the shade of acacia trees. In the afternoon, we will continue in the gorge to the campsite at the exit of the valley. (6 hours walking). Overnight camping.
Our caravan will pass through a large rocky plateau to arrive late morning in a setting of small dunes and tamarisk. Lunch break. In the afternoon we will continue our way to the foot of the big dune named “Abed lia”. We admire a beautiful sunset in the evening. (6 hours walking). Overnight camping.
We start for a nice Hike in the dunes of Chgaga to the point of our camp near the dunes of GHirt lgherzem, we will hwve our lunch near by nice dunes. 6h dunes walk. Overnight camping.
we will enjoy walking between the dunes, then we will have lunch in the shade varied in some shrubs landscape. We spend the afternoon in the middle of this sublime landscape, then we directly to the highest dune of the Region Zher to a new campsite. (6 hours walking). Overnight camping.
Taking the North East direction to Sidi Naji dotted with Tamaris and will be our last camp at Sidi Naji (6 hours walking).
We cross the last dunes to reach the last palm valley and the village of DRRA Mhamid where we will find our transportation to get us back to Ouarzazate, overnight at the hotel, 3 hours of walking, 4h and 30 driving about 276km.
